An online catalogue maker should reduce repeated work. The useful starting point is not a blank canvas: it is a structured list containing each product name, SKU, category, description, wholesale price, recommended retail price, minimum order quantity and case pack. Once those details are consistent, the same information can power several buyer documents.
What belongs in a product catalogue?
Retail buyers usually need to understand three things quickly: what the product is, where it sits within the range and whether the commercial terms suit their shop. Good product photography helps, but it should not push essential ordering information into a separate email.
- A clear product name and unique SKU
- A short description focused on materials, use or differentiating features
- Wholesale price and optional RRP or MSRP
- Minimum order quantity and case-pack quantity
- Typical lead time and stock or seasonal notes
- Your brand contact details and ordering terms
PDF catalogue or digital catalogue?
| Format | Best for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| PDF product catalogue | Emailing buyers, downloading, printing and keeping a dated record | A changed price requires a new file |
| Hosted digital catalogue | Live updates, analytics and clickable product links | Often requires a subscription and ongoing hosting |
| Wholesale line sheet | Fast range review and trade-show conversations | Less space for brand story and detailed imagery |
CatalogPack creates a dated PDF pack. It is designed for small brands that want professional documents without committing to a catalogue-hosting subscription. The product catalogue provides the visual view, while the line sheet and price list make comparison faster.
How to prepare your product data
Use one SKU for one sellable item
Do not reuse the same SKU for different colours or sizes if those variants are ordered separately. A consistent code prevents confusion on order forms and makes later spreadsheet updates easier.
Keep descriptions concise
A catalogue description is not a full product page. State the material, important feature, size or use case in one or two sentences. Avoid claims that you cannot substantiate.
Separate wholesale and retail pricing
Label prices clearly and state whether wholesale figures include or exclude applicable tax. An RRP helps retailers assess margin, but it should remain optional where your distribution model does not use one.
State order constraints beside the product
Minimum order quantity and case pack are different. MOQ is the smallest quantity a buyer can order; case pack is the quantity packed together. If they are identical, show both consistently or explain the rule in the trade terms.
A faster catalogue workflow
- Export your product spreadsheet as CSV.
- Check names, SKUs and pricing for duplicates or blanks.
- Import the CSV into the catalogue maker.
- Add optional product images and your logo.
- Review the catalogue, line sheet, price list and order form together.
- Download a dated PDF and retain the source spreadsheet for the next update.
This workflow keeps the design dependent on the data rather than the other way around. It also means a price change is made once before the documents are regenerated.
Use both “catalog” and “catalogue” naturally
“Catalog” is common in American English and in software product names; “catalogue” remains familiar in British English. The underlying document is the same. CatalogPack uses both terms in its guides so international product brands can find the relevant help without changing the document structure.
